It has been common knowledge for a while that Google will be including it's Mobile Friendly test into the search algorithm. The first signs of this were the light grey 'Mobile Friendly' tags displayed next to responsive websites in the search results. This was to help people choose a website which would provide the best user experience when they were on their mobile devices. Since then Google has announced on it's own blog that it will be implementing a worldwide change to it's algorithm which will take into account a sites mobile capabilities when ranking in search results. Below is a direct quote form the blog:

'Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices.'

Since then a key player in the Google Webmaster Trends team has been quoted as saying he thinks the new changes will have an impact on a greater number of websites than the Panda and Penguin algorithm changes. This could have massive and far reaching consequences for any site owners who have not been adopting a mobile friendly strategy. Fortunately, here in Darwen and Blackburn we have been creating fully responsive websites for a number of years and our customer will have nothing to fear in terms of the upcoming changes.
